History of Theatre (Abridged)

Dramaturge

Band Bang You're Dead is a very modern play.  It was written as a response to school shootings, like Columbine, to educate high school aged students about school shootings.  It doesn't have too much history, but it is a very different play than Class Act normally puts up.  We hope to perform this for school assemblies throughout the month of April, as well as travel to other area schools to get the message out.  Because of copyright agreements, while anyone can perform the play (no royalties!), we cannot accept donations or charge admissions for this play, so we will not be performing it as a normal play.  Our aim for the final product of the play is to take it to regional festival, and hopefully continue on to the next level.  Thanks to everyone who is helping out with this play!

History of Theatre
(according to us, anyways)

Class Act was very active in Alvirne's early days, from putting on performances to performing at Festival and winning awards. However, near the end of the nineties into the beginnning of the new millenium, our drama club faltered. Plays weren't getting off the ground. In 2002, Class Act performed a one act entitled Women and Wallace, its first successful production in years. In 2003, we performed the classic comedy Arsenic and Old Lace in the fall, and Neil Simon's Rumors in the spring, as well as improv at the end of the year. In 2004, we performed the school's first musical, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, in the fall, and Trifles for Festival, and three one acts in the spring, Of Widows and Vegetables, The Scheme of the Driftless Shifter, and This is a Test (starring Alvirne faculty members). Class Act is still going strong, having performed Mary Chase's classic comedy Harvey in the fall of 2004. We're also participating in NHETG festival for the second year in a row, this time with William Mastrimone's powerful anti-school violence piece Bang Bang You're Dead. This spring, we will present the second Evening of one acts, featuring two student-written and -directed one acts. Class Act has also branched out into the community, 2004 being the first year of the Class Act Guild, and by hosting a Super Bowl party in January.
